FAQ
When did you start collecting nail polish?
I've loved nail polish for as long as I can remember. I've always enjoyed painting my nails, but I would just throw on a coat of polish and leave it at that. About a year ago, I discovered some nail polish blogs. Since then I've started really taking care of my nails and cuticles because it does make a difference in the appearance and longevity of your manicure. I would say I started "collecting" polish last year when OPI released the Katy Perry line. That was the first line that I actually hunted down, and since then it has become my favorite hobby.
What are your manicure essentials?
There are several things I use to keep my nails healthy and strong. When starting a new mani, I use the following:
- Beauty Secrets Pure Acetone Available at Sally's Beauty Supply, retails around $6.00 for 32 oz.
- This is essential in removing old nail polish, as well as oils and dirt that build up on the nail.
- Sally Hansen Gel Cuticle Remover Available at most health and beauty retailers, retails around $5.49
- Cuticle removers shouldn't scare you! For this specific product, you should apply 2 times a week for up to 8 minutes, then push the cuticles back and wash hands with soapy warm water. This will help get ride of dead skin, hang nails and jagged cuticles.
- Essie Billionails Available at Trade Secrets and most health and beauty retailers, retails around $12.00
- Billionails is the second step in a 3 step nail straightening system. You can use Billionails by itself or as a base coat.
- American Classic's Gelous Nail Gel Available at Sally's Beauty Supply, retails at around $6.00
- Gelous is a protein rich base coat that helps the polish bond to the nail.
- Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat, available at Sally's Beauty Supply and most Health and Beauty retailers, retails for around $9.00
- Hands down best top coat! It helps seal in your manicure, and drys quickly creating a hard, glass-like finish.
- Weleda Pomegranate Hand Cream, Available at Target, retails around $10.39 for 1.7 oz.
- Helps to moisturize your skin without leaving your hands sticky or greasy.
What are your favorite polish brands?
This is a tie between OPI and China Glaze. Most of my posts will be about one of these, or drug store brands. One of the reason's I started blogging, was to discover new brands of polish that may not be available at local salons or nail polish retailers.
How often do you do your nails?
I paint my nails at least once a day, normally at night when the little one is sleeping. If I have several new goodies, I may paint them a few times a day.
